MA TESOL Forum

Are you interested in becoming a language teacher, learning advisor, or language researcher in the future? Are you thinking of doing an MA in TESOL or Applied Linguistics after you graduate from KUIS? Join this forum and find out about some different options for doing your Master’s degree by KUIS students, teachers and learning advisors.

There will be a short presentation from each of our guest presenters followed by an opportunity to ask questions and extend the discussion. Feel free to bring your lunch to this forum.

Presenters:
  • Daniel Hooper (an ELI lecturer who completed his MA TESOL at Kanda University graduate school) will talk about linking course content with professional practice and taking advantage of opportunities for resumé building.
  • Yuri Imamura (a SALC learning advisor who did her MA TESOL at the University of Birmingham, UK) will talk about postgraduate life in the UK, the TEFL program at a British university, and how she has been utilising the knowledge or skills that she gained through the TEFL program in her advising.
  • Sina Takada (a former KUIS student currently doing an MA TESOL at Kanda University graduate school) will talk about what to keep in mind for new graduates, and workload and frequency of classes.
  • Haruka Ubukata (a former KUIS student currently doing an M.Sc. in TESOL at Temple University Japan) will talk about some of the core courses offered in the program and opportunities it can provide for your development as a language teacher.
  • Masaru Yamamoto (a former KUIS student who is about to start his MA TESL at the University of British Columbia, Canada) will talk about how he became interested in graduate school in Canada and about the application and preparation process.
  • Amelia Yarwood (a SALC learning advisor who did her MA Linguistics (TESOL) at Sophia University Japan) will talk about the importance of building strong relationships with your classmates, engaging in discussions and seeking help from your professors.
